CNN had this great little personal commentary piece from a food writer on some of her favorite things to eat when she can get away with it. She asked for comments from readers about their favorites. Top of the list, when I looked: a mouthful of whipped cream straight out of the can.
Who hasn’t done this? You’re either under age 8 and Mom won’t let you near that can or you’re LYING.
Some of my other favorite comments:
– “I could eat a whole loaf of garlic bread if no one was watching.”
– “I have a weakness for after-dinner mints … have eaten a bowl in place of dinner.”
– “Sweetened condensed milk right out of the can, or on bananas.”
– “I like Doritos dipped in peanut butter!”
OK, that last one is just disgusting, but I am fond of Cool Ranch Doritos used to scoop up cottage cheese, which caused another commenter to gag.
Here, in interest of full disclosure, are some of my other guilty food secrets:
– Whole jumbo black olives, after first sticking them on my fingers.
– A spoonful of peanut butter straight from the jar.
– Dough in nearly all forms: piecrust, cookie, bread. I have been known to mix a scoop of Bisquik with some milk and eat it raw.
– Mushrooms sauteed in butter.
– A big bowl of pistachio pudding. Don’t leave me alone with it and expect leftovers.
I feel better now. And hungry. Off to scour the cupboards.

Fie on those who diss your use for cottage cheese! It makes a great substitute for buttermilk and mayo as a base for ranch dip.

Oh, I love raw dough too. Frosting straight from the can is a horrible guilty pleasure as well. And cheese. Any kind of cheese. No crackers or anything else necessary to accompany it.

Well, I see no one mentioned sour cream with bananas with granulated sugar sprinkled on top. Give me time, I am sure I can come up with more…..
