Triple digits = cold cereal for dinner.

Heck, even double digits sometimes.

A CNN blogger posted a bit about cereals that made me think about my favorites.

At the moment, our cereal cupboard contains Quaker Oat Squares and Frosted Mini Wheats. Slightly Older Princess likes Honey Bunches of Oats best, while Little Princess favors Life. I like all of the above, but my first choices would be Cracklin’ Oat Bran (fantastic straight from the box) or Quaker Granola with raisins, even though the raisins are sometimes hard enough to crack fillings. Both are wonderful with cold milk, but I also like the granola with a really good quality plain yogurt and fresh berries, particularly blackberries.

Sugar stuff? Meh. Not as much as when I was a kid and lived for the days when I could eat breakfast at the home of a friend whose parents didn’t think buying Froot Loops was a mortal sin. (Little did I know I’d grow up to be one of those – one of the Christmas traditions in our house involves having the Princesses choose a box each of Sugar Frosted Cocoa Bombs or whatever, which they get to eat on Christmas morning and throughout most of the rest of the winter break, but no other time.) But I do like Cap’n Crunch, original and peanut butter, and I’ll still take a bowlful of Lucky Charms if I get the chance, slimy marshmallows and all.

My college roommate liked a bowlful of Kix, to which she’d add, not milk, but orange juice. Don’t knock it till you try it, she’d say, but I never have. Some things are just WRONG.
