How I solved the loud cat problem, why I’m annoyed by Sarah Palin’s resignation and questions about itchy bug bites. Enjoy.

1. A week after his vet stay, Jake the cat is much improved. We still have to force-feed him antibiotics, but he’s more resigned and doesn’t fight as hard. He still yowls in the middle of the night, hoping we’ll let him out, but I’ve taken to locking him in the garage with food, water, a bed and a litterbox, and then at least the humans in the house can sleep peacefully.

2. Anderson’s Blueberries are ready! We like to pick the Spartans: huge, deep blue and with a mellow sweetness perfect for muffins and eating straight out of the bucket.

3. Slightly Older Princess is soon to head off to her very first weeklong sleep-away camp. She is thrilled; I am wretched and bereft. Growing ought not to be allowed. She has been packed for weeks. What should I make sure she doesn’t forget?

4. Summer’s heat is fine by me, but so is the occasional cool morning. I made brownies today.

5. I have no idea why Sarah Palin quit, and I guess her reasons are her own, but it annoys me that she’s given people another reason to believe women aren’t cut out for the rigors of politics.

6. I am willing to donate my body to science to find either a foolproof mosquito repellent or an anti-itch medication. What works for you?

7. We are celebrating! Harry Potter movie #6 is almost here!

That is all.
